When Moshiach Approaches
Guest post from Lawrence:
The Gemara in Sota 49a says that Moshiach will come to a generation whose "pnei hador are like the pnei hakelev" (face of generation is like face of a dog).
Rabbi Yisrael Salanter, zs'l, explains that pnei hador are referring to the religious leaders of the generation. Their resemblance to that of a dog cannot be taken literally. Rather, he interprets this statement to be comparing the behavior of the leaders to those of a dog.
A dog will always walk ahead of its master, with the master holding onto its leash from behind. To a simple onlooker it might appear that it is the dog that is pulling the person, taking him to where he, the dog, wants to go. Actually, it is the master who is leading the dog. A tug on the leash will lead the dog where its master wishes to go.
Similar to the dog, says Rabbi Yisrael Salanter, the Jewish leaders of the pre-Messianic era will appear to be leading their people, when actually they will be guiding the people by responding to their wishes. The people will be pulling and guiding their leaders, persuading them to restructure religious morals in order to fit in with their lifestyles. Such a generation cannot help but stray from the path of truth.
It seems like all of them are out for one thing, their own good. It’s wrong. HaShem’s Will should be the only thing to follow. The Zohar HaKadosh says not to place trust in men, armies, chariots, etc., only in HaShem.
Trust HaShem and seek His counsel, this is something that will be upheld. If you trust HaShem, Hashem will empower you because of your loyalty. Beware of what your eyes tell you. The Satan comes in many forms and can fool any man into doing things that are foolish. Trust in the rigor of the holy Torah and Talmud to teach you the correct answers. This is where the light is stored.
HaShem will fight for all of us with His legion. The angels of HaShem are all around us to protect us, the Jews in exile. It’s sort of like a spark of light that travels from Tzion to individually protect every Jew. There are also "timepiece" and during the day it changes and every month, brings new energy that is different from previous.
Our Shabbat and Chagim (holidays) mark special days where the spiritual world is more receptive to our actions. During Rosh Chodesh and Sabbath, the klipot are greatly reduced and we can get a taste of the World to Come and be able to withstand the light coming out of the sheath.
This will happen when Moshiach approaches towards us and we will feel and see 'אור ה the light of HaShem. The mitzvot fortify our organs and sinews and give vitality to them. Keeping Shabbat and Chagim helps us to absorb and to become easily accustomed to the great Light of HaShem that will be. Those that are not prepared for the light will be burnt to a crisp.
The material of this world is nothing compared to the essence that is above. We are living a very corporal superficial existence that is being maintained by the filtering of the light from the higher spiritual realms.
As we uplift the nisosot (sparks) of an animal for its Tikun when we eat, the Malach (angel) lifts our sparks. The only thing is that we have to be kosher to reach a higher spiritual level.
This is not pleasant for someone who is not ready to hear this. Therefore the Sages have hidden most of this from us since it would tend to drive someone who is based in the corporality of this world crazy. They would become unhinged because their fake perception of having a real existence outside of the creation would be shattered.
