127 Chayyei Sarah 127

ויהיו חיי שרה, מאה שנה ועשרים שנה ושבע שנים, שני, חיי שרה
And the life of Sarah will be one hundred twenty years and seven; the years of the life of Sarah.

Rabbenu HaRav Moshe Alshich zs'l (1521-1593, one of the leading Mekubalim of Safed) asks why is Sara Imenu's (a'h) lifespan mentioned twice?

Gemara says that Avraham Avinu, zs'l, married Sara Imenu when she was very young. When she gave birth to Yitzchak Avinu, she was 90 and Avraham Avinu was 100. He was 10 years older than her. When they both completely recognized the Creator, Avraham Avinu, zs'l, was 48 years old and Sara Imenu was 38.

In Shamayim (Heaven), only the righteous years of a person is called "living". The years that a person lived without Torah is called in Shamayim "non-living".

Example: A person does Teshuva at the age of 52 and passes away at 66. In Shamayim, his judgment is on 14 "living" years. Based on Teshuva, he is judged for the 52 "non-living" years.

"And the life of Sarah will be ויהיו Gematria 37.
Sara Imenu's 127 years was counted in Shamayim a complete 127 "living" years. The 37 "non-living" years before doing Teshuva were combined with the 90 "living" because she corrected it thru Teshuva and produced סולת "finely cleansed sifted flour" of "living" years.

The reason the lifespan of Sara Imenu is repeated twice is because there are 2 kinds of "living". The first "living" is the quantity and the second is the quality. As it says " כי בי ירבו ימיך For by me your days will be increased" - this is the quality and " ויוסיפו לך שנות חיים and the years of your life will be long" - the quantity.

That's the reason Sarah Imenu's age is mentioned twice and says שני, חיי שרה (second, lifespan of Sarah). Her Teshuva was complete and therefore, she merited to have both kinds of "living"; quantity and quality. And thru Teshuva, she refined her "living" years and merited to have the 37 "non-living" years counted as "living".

From the Sefer "Derushim on the Torah" Bereshit, Ben Ish Chai, zs'l.

Once, a simple person told Reb Yisroel of Ruzhin zt'l that he didn't know how to do teshuva. The Rebbe retorted, "And to sin you did know? You just sinned without thinking twice and later you "conveniently" realized that you committed a sin. If you start mending your ways, the teshuva will follow automatically."

In the merit of our Mother, Sara Imenu, may we all merit to combine the "non-living" years by cleansing and refining our "living" years", with quality and quantity. AMEN!!!
