Sounds of the Shofar

Guest post from great Torah Scholar Rebbe's wife:

Extraordinary chiddush from perek 47, pasuk Vav:
"עלה אלהים, בתרועה; יהוה, בקול שופר Sing praise to God, sing praises: Sing praises unto our King, sing praises."

This chapter is said also before blowing the Shofar on Rosh Hashana. Chazal ask why must we hear 100 shofar blowing sound? The answer is amazing and surprising. The 100 sounds of the Shofar is in exchange for the the one hundred wails of SISRA's MOTHER!!

It is very interesting that it is Sisra's mother who is depicted in Shirat Devorah HaNevia, a'h, out of the whole miracle of the defeated goyim (non-Jews)!! Obviously, she represents the empowering force, the nourisher of Sisra. What was she after? What was on her mind?? All the beautiful tapestries and clothing that her son and his army would loot from Am Yisrael. The riches and wealth of this Olam (world). The כוחי ועצם ידי - sinful pride in ones achievements. An integral part of Teshuva is the sounding of the Shofar to remove the impure mindset, the despairing, dying wails of Sisrah's mother.

זֶה לְעֻמַּת זֶה Opposite each other is the MOTHER OF ISRAEL, Devorah HaNevia, who empowers Am Yisrael through her nurturing song, words of encouragement and constructive improvement advice. All this is in the message of "זמרו משכיל Sing psalms with understanding". Hashem commands us, CONTEMPLATE thru song, use the intelligece Hashem endows us with, and take a good look at what's going on, and you will see through the lies; if you search sincerely and truthfully and courageously sing.

A further exciting insight from this week's parasha Vayigash taken from 613.org.:The Meor Einayim, zs'l, explained that the reason why there is a powerful urge to share good news is Ibbur of the neshama. At the moment when one brings good tidings, the soul of Elijah the prophet, the Mevaser Tov, the person who will bring the news of the ultimate redemption, enters into one’s soul.

Using this principle one can understand why Serach Bat Asher, a'h, was counted as two individuals in the count of the members of Yaakov Avinu’s family, zs'l, that went down to Egypt (see Midrash Rabba on parshas Vayigash, 94:9). Since she brought the good news of Yosef Hatzadik, zs'l, survival to her grandfather, Yaakov Avinu, she had two souls, her own and the soul of Eliyahu Hanavi, two souls are counted as two.

Perhaps it was this soul of Eliyahu HaNavi within her that caused her to enter Heaven alive as Eliyahu HaNavi did. (Serach bat Asher entered Heaven while still alive.)

Serach’s added soul teaches an important lesson about exile. Exile is not a permanent state. At the onset of Jewish subjugation a member of the community harbored the soul of Eliyahu the bringer of redemption. Thus the light of redemption started to glow with the beginning of exile to comfort the Jews and inform them that their salvation was already set in place and it only had to be activated.

The full spelling of Serach’s name yields the same gematria value of 1288, same as the phrase
"ייתקע בשופר גדול, ובאו האובדים On that day, the ultimate redemption will be heralded through a great shofar and the lost ones will come (to God’s home in Jerusalem).”

This correlation further indicates that Serach had the soul of Eliyahu HaNavi, who like the great Shofar sounds, calls for the ultimate return to Israel.

Shofar - Serach bat Asher - singing the song of truth for the final Redemption.
