40 Days To Spritual Cleansing

Beginning Rosh Chodesh Elul until Yom Kipur, it is recommended to read, even without understanding, "Tikunei Zohar" which helps rectify one's lower soul (Nefesh). A few pages are read daily for the 40 days that Moshe Rabbenu, zs'l, spent the second time in Heaven receiving the second set of tablets. Here are some benefits brought in the introduction of "Tikunei Zohar":
Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, zs'l
The Zohar was written to shed light on the Shechina in exile, not to be lonely, to unite Z"A and Malchut by learning the secrets of Torah (Sod from the Sefira Yessod that makes the unification of YHVH with ADNY).
Eliyahu Hanavi, zachur latov
The learning of Zohar will provide spiritual nourishment to the soul and rectify the lower soul (basic life force infected with desires and bad traits); this learning will be revealed in the last generation before Mashiach and because of it, Mashiach and redemption will come.
