HKB'H forgives His honor but not on the honor of Talmudical students/Rabbanim.
Hashem punishes the person who insults with the harshest punishments imaginable, such as death and poverty. The Gemarra says that embarrasement is like death. When a person transgresses, G-d forbid, he or she is sinning against Hashem. Verbal abuse, insult, and embarrassment are very very serious crimes, that not even Tshuva can cleanse, unless one first begs forgiveness from the victim. Rav Eisel Charif, z'sl, was the Chief Rav of Slonim (he was called Charif-sharp becuz he was known for his sharpness and insight). The head of the Congregation was a rich guy who was very arrogant and conceited. People complained and gossiped about him that he is not from זרע כשר (Mamzer/bastard) because he would insult the Rav.
The Rav called him and told him: "I want to tell you a story. 3 came to HKB'H, each with a complaint; the prayer Alenu 'עלינו', Seuda Shlishit (3rd meal of Shabbat) and the Mamzer.
"Alenu" complained that he was placed at the end, and daveners are in a hurry to leave the Synagogue. Seuda Shlishit complained that the previous 2 Shabbat meals merit Kiddush, Chalot, and special food. By her, Kiddush is not said and the meal is minimal. The Mamzer complained why must he pay the price for his mother and cannot enter into the congregation?.
HKB'H answer them "I'll fulfill your shortcomings. On Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, 'Alenu' will be said during Musaf and even the Aron HaKodesh will be open in his honor. In the honor of Seuda Shlishit, Jews will lengthen the meal and also say Dvar Torah. For the Mamzer, he will be first and will be head of the congregation and if he doesn't come into the congregation, the congregation will come to him ... and this fulfills the promise "The bastard will exist in us" - 'ממזר התקיים בנו
