Loving HaShem

The Torah begins with the letter Bet בראשית and ends with the letter Lamed ישראל. The letters Bet and Lamed is LEV - Heart.

"ואהבת את ה' אלוקיך, בכל לבבך ובכל נפשך"

In "Shema Yisrael" it says that we should love HaShem first with all our heart, and then with our soul. Why did the Chachamim teach us to love HaShem with all our hearts first when then with our soul. The Nefesh (soul) is the holiest spiritual part of the person and the heart is a physical part of the body.

One answer is that only the physical body could keep the Mitzvot of the Torah HaKedosha and a person that follows the Torah without his heart, it's as if he doesn't keep the Torah and His commandments.

That's why Chachamim said the heart first. We do the Mitzvot becuz we love HaShem and not because HaShem commanded us. Love comes from the heart and not from the soul.

Chachamim say in Gemarah, "Rachmana Liba Ba'e" - Rachmana is HaShem, Liba is the heart, and the Ba'e is want.

A Jew should know that HaShem wants our hearts, our love, and that's why the Torah begins and ends with LEV - heart. The beggining of the Torah till its end gives the person the energy to love HaShem from the heart.

When HaShem sees that the person loves Him so much, HaShem returns this love and gives him His blessings. HaShem's mida of Hakarat Hatov is infinite.

When doing Mitzvot, it should be from our heart with love, and not because HaShem commanded us.

When we keep the Torah from our heart, the Ben Ish Chai zs'l promises that these people will be zoche to live in the time of Moshiach and those who were niftar, will be zoche to Tchiat Hametim and Olam Haba.

Baruch HaShem Le'Olam - Amen Ve'Amen
