Agreement With the Devil

Prophet Daniel, zs'l, Chapter 8

כג וּבְאַחֲרִית, מַלְכוּתָם, כְּהָתֵם, הַפֹּשְׁעִים--יַעֲמֹד מֶלֶךְ עַז-פָּנִים, וּמֵבִין חִידוֹת.
23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors have completed their transgression, there shall stand up a king of fierce countenance, and understanding stratagems.

כד וְעָצַם כֹּחוֹ וְלֹא בְכֹחוֹ, וְנִפְלָאוֹת יַשְׁחִית וְהִצְלִיחַ וְעָשָׂה; וְהִשְׁחִית עֲצוּמִים, וְעַם-קְדֹשִׁים.
24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper and do; and he shall destroy them that are mighty and the people of the saints.

כה וְעַל-שִׂכְלוֹ, וְהִצְלִיחַ מִרְמָה בְּיָדוֹ, וּבִלְבָבוֹ יַגְדִּיל, וּבְשַׁלְוָה יַשְׁחִית רַבִּים; וְעַל שַׂר-שָׂרִים יַעֲמֹד, וּבְאֶפֶס יָד יִשָּׁבֵר.
25 And through his cunning he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and in time of security shall he destroy many; he shall also stand up against the prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

כו וּמַרְאֵה הָעֶרֶב וְהַבֹּקֶר אֲשֶׁר נֶאֱמַר, אֱמֶת הוּא; וְאַתָּה סְתֹם הֶחָזוֹן, כִּי לְיָמִים רַבִּים.
26 And the vision of the evenings and mornings which hath been told is true; but thou, shut thou up the vision; for it belongeth to many days to come.'

כז וַאֲנִי דָנִיֵּאל, נִהְיֵיתִי וְנֶחֱלֵיתִי יָמִים, וָאָקוּם, וָאֶעֱשֶׂה אֶת-מְלֶאכֶת הַמֶּלֶךְ; וָאֶשְׁתּוֹמֵם עַל-הַמַּרְאֶה, וְאֵין מֵבִין.
27 And I Daniel fainted, and was sick certain days; then I rose up, and did the king's business; and I was appalled at the vision, but understood it not.

Prophet Isaiah (28:14-18)
יד לָכֵן שִׁמְעוּ דְבַר-יְהוָה, אַנְשֵׁי לָצוֹן--מֹשְׁלֵי הָעָם הַזֶּה, אֲשֶׁר בִּירוּשָׁלִָם.
טו כִּי אֲמַרְתֶּם, כָּרַתְנוּ בְרִית אֶת-מָוֶת, וְעִם-שְׁאוֹל, עָשִׂינוּ חֹזֶה; שיט (שׁוֹט) שׁוֹטֵף כִּי-עבר (יַעֲבֹר) לֹא יְבוֹאֵנוּ, כִּי שַׂמְנוּ כָזָב מַחְסֵנוּ וּבַשֶּׁקֶר נִסְתָּרְנוּ.
יח וְכֻפַּר בְּרִיתְכֶם אֶת-מָוֶת, וְחָזוּתְכֶם אֶת-שְׁאוֹל לֹא תָקוּם; שׁוֹט שׁוֹטֵף כִּי יַעֲבֹר, וִהְיִיתֶם לוֹ לְמִרְמָס.

"Hear these words, you scorners who rule in Jerusalem : Your covenant with Israel's enemies is but a covenant with death and an agreement with the devil. You believe that this covenant will spare you from an overflowing scourge . But you have only made lies your refuge, and under falsehood have you hid yourselves . Therefore, says HaShem."

‘Behold . . . the hail [missiles] shall sweep away the refuge of lies.''. . Your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with the devil shall not stand . When the overflowing scourge [of terrorists] shall pass through, you shall be trodden down …
